After perusing the interwebs for a few mind-numbing hours today, I stumbled across a poignant post on buzzfeed that inspired in me a rant of sorts that you will likely read via your cell phone out of sheer boredom on your commute home from work (if at all-let's be honest.)
PUT DOWN YOUR CELL PHONES PEOPLE
I urge you.
3 weeks ago my beautiful little nephew was born and it was one of the more significant days of my life. In a matter of moments (or 24+ hours of labor-ew), this darling being was brought into an entirely new world and just like that I became an aunt with an over-flowing heart. With this little lad cradled in my arms, I suddenly felt what I consider now, and instinctual need to instagram little William Carter Thornton. I tried to justify my desire, telling myself that I simply wanted the world to see how darling my nephew was, and experience his inch of crazy black hair sticking straight up, just like I was. As I was about to reach for my phone, William opened his eyes and I froze mid-reach. Now obviously I eventually instagrammed the crap out of him (and continue to do so, as I'm sure you're well aware of/annoyed by) but that moment wasn't meant for twitter, or facebook, or instagram- it was meant for my family, phones properly stowed in our pockets.
The buzzfeed post is absolutely hilarious, but in that funny-sad kind of way. In that, that's definitely been me before, kind of way. When your cellphone use renders you rude in the real world, that is when it's time to put it down. When did it become acceptable for a couple to have their phones ON THE TABLE during a dinner date? I wasn't aware the newsfeed had earned a place next to the dessert spoon. How about during a face-to-face conversation with someone (if you can still remember what that is)? There is no way you can be invested in a person who is right in front of your face if you are constantly reblogging.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO MISS IN AN HOUR?
Probably a lot, considering I went to Bonnaroo for a few (glorious) days without cell service and when I returned, instagram had video capabilities rendering vine obsolete which is obbbviously a big deal...
But seriously. Maybe you will miss something on social media if you snooze your phone for a good chunk of your day but I can guarantee you are missing things IN REAL LIFE when you are glued to your phone. I ran into a sliding door at Meijer once because I was tweeting. I am certainly missing some brain cells. I also missed the hawks score the winning goal in OT the other night because I was texting, "GO HAWKS!" to a friend... Honestly, I freaking love my phone and I gram my meals as much as the next person, but can we at least draw a line (or reinstate one) that determines where constant cell use is and isn't acceptable?
that is all.
(time to tweet the sh*t out of this)

This weekend we threw a shower for my older sister, Tara, who is expecting a little boy toward the end of June! It was relaxing visiting with friends and family, munching on delicious food, and cooing over the impressively tiny baby clothes (am I the only one who loses it over itty bitty baby socks?)
Love all of my sisters! (including blondies Stephanie and Heather- Tara's in-laws!)
Grandma made a surprise appearance (she lives in Utah!)
I cannot wait to be an aunt. I am beyond excited :)

This week my older sister Tara was in town so we decided to head to Chicago and have a little fun. Enjoying afternoon tea at the legendary Drake Hotel has been on our to-do list for a few years and we finally experienced it! There is something about sipping on exotic teas and munching on tiny sandwiches to the soothing songs of a harp that makes you think, this is relatively ridiculous. Throw in my best British accent, and a little hotel exploration and I can safely say we had ourselves a fabulous time.

Almost too pretty to eat, almost
Can we go in here..?
Dancing with myself
I love spending time with my family and can't wait to have both Tara and Mackenzie back in town in just 2 weeks for Tara's baby shower!
Oh and also, whoever I end up marrying, can we have our reception here?
That is all.

Today I found out that I'm in the middle of a Brooks Brothers billboard on the corner of 18th & Broadway in NYC! If you haven't already heard, Kiel James Patrick is teaming up with Brooks Brothers on an exclusive collection to be released soon! You should check it out here, as it is going to be amazing. Until the collection is released, I am going to revel in the fact that my big ol' face is having a staring contest with New York at this very moment! Life is crazy.

The Old Santa Barbara Mission was one of my favorite sites to explore during my time in California. How can you not be in awe of such beautiful architecture? Not to mention that backdrop...

After landing in LAX on Thursday (and singing a little Miley quietly to myself) my lovely friend Adrienne picked me up and we had ourselves a grand old time walking Santa Monica Boulevard, cruising the beach, and catching up on all things post-high school (and post-our last visit).
Many thanks to my beautiful host, can't wait to see her again in just a few weeks (in our hometown).
Next stop: Morro Bay!
That is all.
